Automatic system shut down, how to delay?

I am using Ubuntu 9.04. Years ago, I did UNIX and DOS line commands, but I am 66 and dim, though my doctor says he still thinks I have my marble.

Anyway, my Linux shuts down automatically faster than I want it to.

How does one control this?

Are there security issues supporting a brief automatic shut down?

Thank you.

How is this automatic shutdown being triggered?

The shutdown command does accept a delay parameter, e.g.
Code:
shutdown -h now
It should be able to accept e.g. a time for the "now" parameter but for obvious reasons I can't test that right now.. :-)

My bad -- power management menu item is the answer.

I appreciate the reply. It will also be helpful. (Thank you)

However, I think I have just found the answer to my question (which I did not pose well).

I went (menu) to System -- then Preferences -- then Power Management. I think I found what I needed. I will test, but unless I post otherwise, assume that is the answer (in case someone else is as dim as I am and needs the same answer).
