Auto logout in Xsession

As a newbie my fist 10 days have been 4 installing Debian (well 8 installs ain't that bad is it ?), then 6 getting my printer and Internet connection working. The Internet I finally sorted by uninstalling diald and finding that my ISP was asking for User not user !! All new to me this fact that the alphabet has just doubled in size.

And with excellent help from this site I got my printer working.

Next projects are sound & CD burning, and here I [finally]come to my question:-

16+ Mb into a 30+ Mb download(on a 56k modem) of the kernel source I find that my Xsession has decided I must have forgotten about it and logged me off , of course taking the download with it. It's been doing this since day 1 but I thought with a download in progress it would have held up, guess it needs some desktop activity.

I've searched through all the X????? initiation files I can find to see where the bit is about auto logout but can't seem to find anything.

I'm running a gnome-session under kdm ( I think, well I get the kdm frames to the windows but the gnome desktop, at the moment kde2 refuses to start, but I'm not too worried about that at the moment)

Hope you guys can come up with an easy answer to stop this auto logout.

Regards

Appears to be a bug. Check this site.

I believe you might be looking in the wrong place, instead of in X in general, check out your gnome settings. I've been there on those long download sessions when things mess up. Very frustrating!

The command line is your friend ;)

nohup wget <file url> > ~/wget.log 2>&1 &

I've downloaded my first Slackware ISO on
a 56K :D ... and if you really get kicked out,
you just recover ;)

Cheers,
Tink

Thanks guys, I've been at work for 4 loooooooong weeks in the middle of nowhere with nothing but M$:-
to Goldennuggets - I'll check that out good idea. I never thought of gnome being the problem

to Tinkster - Yep ! that's the way I did it in the end, I've got a source kernel sitting on my machine, just got to learn how to compile it now !

Thanks
