Auto-Detecting the NIC in RedHat 9.0
 

I just recently installed RedHat 9.0, the install went very well. However, no network interface card was detected and I can't get on the internet. I am using a Dell Optiplex GX60 Desktop Computer with on-board
integrated NIC. How can I get RedHat 9.0 to auto-detect the NIC so that
I can get on the internet. Want simple and quick solution, if there is one. Thanks a mil.

Red Hat Linux 9 has been unsupported for a well over three years. No reason to install it at all. Do you also install Windows 95 on new systems???

If staying with the Red Hat family then install either Fedora 7/8 or CentOS 5.1

I suggest installing Fedora 8 since Redhat 9 is outdated. Uses old 2.4 kernel and less modules for hardware. Going Fedora 8 gets 2.6 kernel, hal and udev for hardware detection plus many new modules for new hardware. If nic is not detected on install then there is still some hope. Posting output from the command ' /sbin/lspci -v ' should give enough info on the nic to see if there is a linux driver for it. If not yet supported then one install ndiswrapper and use the Windows inf driver to interface with the nic. Many post on ndiswrapper install and setup under Fedora.
