Authentication required connecting FTP


I get Connected to 0.0.0.0(the IP of the server)
220 surewest.net:<none>>:
I Enter User MYUSERNAME
I get
530 Must perform authentication before indetifying USER.
Login failed
ftp>

Red Hat 9, vsftp running.

Maybe your ftp client is trying to log you in as nobody as default. After you get your error message as above try typing "user MYUSERNAME" and hit return. It should then ask you for your password.
