audio streaming in linux

I'm working on a project and i could use some information on how audio streaming in linux works. For example I try to find what kind of technolgies are used or how the data are organized in packets etc.

Same as it is in Windows, Protocols define audio streaming not Operating Systems. Here's an article to get you started
