Audio Problems

I have a HP Pavilion 510n with 384MB of RAM, 40 GB hard drive, running RHEL 3, and an Intel 82801AA AC'97 audio card (integrated.) I am having a problem with the audio card. When I try to play anything but the "sound card detection" sound, no sound comes out. I cannot seem to find the AC'97 drivers on Intel's website. I tried ALSA but I couldn't figure what to do after "make install." Is there any other drivers that could help me? Thanks for the help.

the volumes are at zero by default.....
type aumix in the console and increase the volumes.....
and after installing alsa u might need to use alsamixer( in console) to set the volumes which are zero by default
if nothing works
try this
cat /dev/dsp
if it says no such file then u need to install ur audio devices again........
if it cats the file and gives a lot of jargon then its fine.....
have fun!
