Audio problem after update

Hello everyone!

It's been awhile since i posted to this forum, but once again i need your help.

I got another system hp dev6 i-7., 12G RAM., 1T.
I shrunk the windows 7 partition and installed Backtrack 5 R3 and Ubuntu 12.10.

Now just recently I made a mistake allowing HP Advisor to run it's updates including a BIOS update and since then I have no sound in Ubuntu 12.10 and no sound in Win 7 home.,
surprisingly in Backtrack 5 audio is working perfectly with no changes.

What can it be and what can I do about it?

Thank you everyone

I would first go into the bios and check the sound chips setting. Usually a function key or delete key to enter. It should show up on the screen when you boot up.
