audio issue with ess solo-1 1969

my ibm thinkpad 390e has been running mandrake 9.1, and the sounds coming from the card are glitchy and distorted. I checked the driver, and it says it's running ALSA "snd-es1969" driver. I actually got it to work earlier, but by raw luck. how can i adjust the driver or whatever to fix this? I'm using Gnome/KDE.
any help would be great.

Try this.

Hey Skeet,

Check this link out. I had a huge issue with the ES1969 too, but I got it to work really well. I posted what I did to fix it here:

Hope this helps,
