Audio is distorted

Hey one and all,

I have started using linux suse 9.0 and found that when I play my music, it sounds a wee bit distorted (sometimes a lot bit distorted). It all plays fine on windows so I know it is not my speakers or sound card or anything. Any ideas?

You gotta give a few clues ... What soundcard, what application to play music, do you know if you have alsa installed?

One thing you can do is go into your sound volume controller and turn down the PCM a tad. Then you can turn the Main all the way up and not have that horrid distortion.

I agree with benjithegreat98, probably just got the mixer turned up too high. I keep the master volume in alsamixer at 85% as anything higher just results in all sorts of distortion until the volume setting in whichever app is turned down. 80% is probably better as I still get some distortion when apps have their volume maxed and the Master level is at 85%.
