audio CD default application

I just started trying to get multimedia things working (in RH 9, KDE), so I thought I'd start on the simplest thing - playing an audio CD. The good news is, it works. I'm happily playing audio CDs in my application of choice (for now): xmms. The problem I'm having is that whenever I insert an audio CD, it assumes that I want it to play in kscd. So first of all, I'm trying to figure out how to set my default audio CD playing application to xmms.

Second, in xmms, it's not finding the cddb track information...and I can't figure out how to make it do that. Grip will recall the cddb information just fine, so I know it's not some kind of connection issue.

In XMMS, bring up the dropdown menu (click top left corner of XMMS), choose "Options" and then "Preferences" from the Options-submenu.

In the "Audio I/O" tab, you should see something like:

CD Audio Player 1.2.8 [libcdaudio.so]

Highlight it by clicking once on it. Make sure that the "enable plugin" button is selected. Then click the "Configure" button.

Click on the "CD Info" tab at the top and...

Click the selection button to "Use CDDB"

The server setting should already be set to the freedb server...if for some reason it is not, type:

freedb.freedb.org

into the "CDDB server" text box.

I don't use KDE so I'm not sure about how to select the default autoinsert app for CD-Audio, but I'll look around and see if I can find something for you.

Cheers,
Bob
