Unhappy Attempting to install Gcaldaemon

I am trying to install/unzip gcaldaemon downloaded from sourceforge.net.
Following the install.txt instructions I input

cd /usr/local/sbin

but get "no such file or directory"

When I attempt to choose usr/local/sbin as an unzip location using the file manager I get a message saying
"checkdir error: cannot create /usr/local/sbin/GCALDaemon
unable to process GCALDaemon/

What am I doing wrong?
Is there an easier way to unzip a file and install it?
I am trying to sync my calendar with an online cal. where info can be entered on either end. Is there a better program out there? I use Evolution ,I tried Lightning but had too many problems with it.

I am an obvious Newbie, but I am working hard to learn command lines and switch to Ubuntu entirely over time.
