Unhappy attempting to install flash player messed up my updates

i followed some online advice to install the adobe flashplayer on debian 4.0.
Not only did it not work but it's messed things up to.
as instructed i entered - * echo “deb etch main” >> /etc/apt/sources.list
and got the answer- pe ‘“deb’ is not known on line 15 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
Now every time i try to run apt-get i get the above error message
Please help debian is proving to be very frustrating

I have never had a problem installing Flash. Just go to, downloaded their flash.tar.gz package, and installing it. No need to use apt-get to get Flash.

To clear up this apt sources error, go to line 15 and put a # in front of it. It will take out that line. It looks like someone set up their own repository. After you do that, run apt-get update to clean the sources list
