Thank you grapefruitgirl.
Thank you Eric. Eric, I did not extract, but I did run the dvd partially (up to the confusing partition resize part), and it seemed flawless up to that point. Guess I should run another, before I have problems, huh?! |
Thank you, friends!
Grapefruitgirl is correct, and Erics tutorial solved that lil issue! Now, Before I run this, I have one more bit that needs clarity. My laptop is only a week old, so not very much is changed here. In my Disk Management, it shows 3 partitions, that were here by default from the start. In summary, it reads: 1. 1.46 GB - Active, Recovery Partition 2. 222.43 GB NTFS - Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition 3. 8.99 GB - Primary Partition It is obvious to me that #1 is for emergencies, and #2 is my windows partition. What is that mysterious #3? I cannot see it in My Computer. It seems un-accessible. I am operating windows under my Administrator User Account. Is it safe to delete that #3 so I can have 9 more GB for my Kubuntu? |
I think it's not safe to remove the partition #3 (but someting like 10GB, or less, is OK to Kubuntu, since you can mount the windows partition from it, and store things in that :P)
* in my last post, I've posted an wrong link. The correct: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Gr...nstall/Kubuntu |
Hi Neal,
I've noticed that 'strange' partition also on installations, for some reason that's not clear to me it's created when Windoze is installed. Since you're harddisk is large enough I'd only work with the Code:
2. 222.43 GB NTFS - Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition So, basically, resize the biggest partition and use that free space for your Kubuntu installation. Kind regards, Eric |
Thanks fbobraga.
In the past I have had problems with creating 5 or more partitions on a disk, not that I know what Im talking about. So, here I have 3 partitions, and must create 2 more (Kubuntu and Swap). Does anyone see a problem with me having 5 partitions? |
Hey Eric!
|
Hi Neal,
If I'm correct you can create up to four primary partitions on one disk, since swap will be created in an extended partition I don't see any problem here. Kind regards, Eric |
Brother, Im shootin for a 100% successful install, on the FIRST attempt!!!
No more "weeks" of pulling our hairs out. Lucky you, seems you have no more to pull out... ;-D |

It's by choice that I don't have any more hairs to pull out. Once a week some private time with a razor takes care of that :) Kind regards, Eric |
Oh the kids Eric, the kids! This is not the proper forum for this nonsense!!!
So Im writing the recovery disc now, just... in... case... Any reason I should create a System Image? |
Hello,
Only for the obvious reason that you'll need it if you ever want to reinstall Windoze with its current configurations (if I'm not mistaking). Kind regards, Eric |
Thumbs up!
|
Ok these backup functions are going slow. Imma run out for some burnt bean juice, maybe it will be done when I return.
Then I will attack the partition-re-size task, then finally, run the Kubuntu 10.04 installation. I hope to be dual-boot by noon-ish. 100% flawless re-size and install. Please, Krishna! Hare Krishna! |
Eric, if you still do the IM, maybe I will find you for chat later. Peace, bro!
|
Good luck and enjoy your juice :) And yes I'm still using IM (although most of the time with a 'busy' status but don't let that bother you.
Kind regards, Eric |
