AT&T Broadband Connectivity Issues
Hey folks. I figure this post would be best made in the newbie forum, because I'm a newbie. I'm having some problems establishing an internet connection in Linux (Slackware 8.1). I'm using AT&T Broadband, I've heard a lot of folks have problems using Linux/ATTBB. I used the search engine, read the how-to's, still have had no luck.
One thing I noticed, in the Cable Modem HOW-TO, someone said that AT&T users must use a hostname equal to their 'windowsidentification'. I'm not sure what this is, I assumed the comp. name (the how-to said that it always ends with -a, my comp name doesnt but I use Win2K), still no luck though. Another idea, I thought it could be my NIC driver, netconfig detects mine as using the tulip.o module. The card came with some linux drivers, haven't tried to install them yet (it had a problem with directories, haven't looked into changing it yet)... Anyway, any help or links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, toast |
Hows it going. I just installed 8.1 a couple days ago, and I have attbb, I live in CO. In the install, I selected DCHP, then entered the hostname, which for mine is C450754-a. It probed my net card and I was able to access the net without a problem from the first install. I would call up ATT and try and get it out of them.
