Well try lspci -v to see what it actually is. This will list all your PCI cards located in your machine.

1. one of my cd drives is showing as a scsi
the point here being is that i do not have any scsi hardware! (posibly my dvd player as i can not play dvd's at the moment..the program hangs and disk reads and reads and reads but that's it no movie!)

Check the kernel config, at might appear that scsi emulation is enabled. It can't hurt, leave it like that ... It's should not be a problem for DVD program players that it's reconised as a SCSI device.

2. my sound card is not working!
As mentioned above, try to define the card, with the lspci command. Then check the Supported Hardware list of your distro. If it's not supported, search on the web for drivers.

but it works fine under knoppix 3.2 (live cd)!
Well then atleast there will be a driver available for knoppix ...so it might also be for your distro.

3. americas army cd does NOT auto boot! (same goes for RTCW)
Hmm don't know sorry ... anyone ?

my computer is cd boot enabled but it still does not boot.
Check if the boot "order" is correct in the BIOS. If that's okay try booting with an other CD (which is bootable :-)

3.1 could i use LILO to boot live cd's??? if so how?
Yes you can ...

image = /boot/imagename
root = /devices/cdrom device
label = Knoppix ?
read-only # read-only for checking

4. i have morphix games 0.4 can any body help here i do not know how to install it!!!!!

Hmm aren't there ANY manuals within this games? ;)

i am new to this i only installed mandrake a few hours ago
Hmm then don't try to get everything work as fast as you can. Try to re-build your system with patience and step by step ;)

please please reply :confused:

1. Most likely not your DVD drive but a CD-RW drive. Older versions of cdrecord needs SCSI emulation to write CDs. Same thing as Windows too but the average user just never "see" it.

2. I know absolutely that your card is being detected by Mandrake... you just have to unmute it and turn up the volume. If under KDE, try running kmix.

3. I don't have any of these games... but are you sure the CDs are bootable? Got any reference sites?

4. Technically yes, but not in the way in which you're thinking to boot those games CD. If the CDs are really bootable, they will boot provided you've set your BIOS to attempt boot from CD drive before hard disk.

5. I don't have that game.

Of course it works... i never posted anything misleading :p

Well, actually I was an ex-Mandrake user and 9.1 was the last release I used... so I am quite familiar with some of its stupidities... err... features I mean.

I have AA... and I do get sound in it. Have you checked your "Sound Configuration" options? I don't have ROtCW though... sorry.

howzat 09-09-2003 09:01 AM

hahaaa (it is true for all of us)

i will try that but how do i try that?? in a turm do i type sound configuration....or some thing. if you are refuring to the in game options that just asks if i want reverse stereo ect...but if not i told u i was a newbie. how can i compress files in windows for transport to mandrake? (it is virtualy the stock package with a few extra apps added).
