Association request to the driver failed when using wpa_supplicant with Madwifi
I'm new and could use some help.
I'm trying to manually connect my wireless adapter to my router using WPA. I'm using Madwifi drivers for my D-Link DWL-G630. I keep getting the same error " Association request to the driver failed". I can connect to my router using wep through the GUI. I can not connect using the terminal. I created my /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf file ap_scan=1 ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant network={ ssid="NYNET" scan_ssid=0 proto=WPA key_mgmt=WPA-PSK psk="Trombone!" pairwise=TKIP group=TKIP } I run these two commands sudo ifconfig wlan3 down sudo dhclient -r wlan3 the I run sudo wpa_supplicant -Dwext -iwlan3 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -dd jmorales@jmorales-laptop:~$ sudo ifconfig wlan3 up jmorales@jmorales-laptop:~$ sudo dhclient -r wlan3 Internet Systems Consortium DHCP Client V3.1.2 Copyright 2004-2008 Internet Systems Consortium. Hi, welcome to LQ!
W/o having read all the gory details; the first thing I spot is that your PSK appears to be clear text which isn't a good thing :} You may get more targeted responses if you tell people what distro you're using, btw. Cheers, Tink |
Thanks for your response. I'm currently using ubantu 9.1. As far as the PSK, it's a test to see if this works.
Thanks, JM |
