assignig downloads from browser to a specific file instead of to disc

when I save a download to disc the download disappears to an oddly named hard-to-find cache file . How do I Send it direct to home/documents or Home/downloads e.g.???

If you are using Firefox or Iceweasel (Debian's firefox) click Edit > Preferences the menu that comes up press the Main tab, there is a section for Downloads. You can pick "Save files to" or "Always ask me where to save files" then close the window. The next time you download a file it will either go to the directory you specified or will ask you where to put it.
