assign new data partition to specific users

I have a new primary partition which I mounted to /mnt/data1. I want to assign specific users to have full access to it and also samba access from XP to this partition for data storage. What should I do in this case? Thanks a lot.

Might be easiest to create a new group and add those users to the group and give the new partition's directory 770 permissions. In samba you can specify which uses can access it fairly easily.

but currently the /mnt/data1 belongs to root. How should I do with it? thanks.
