arm linux

i am using compulab's cm -t3530 omap3530 based eval kit

it has linux kernel 2.6.32.

i have compiled it with uvc driver support.

when i connect my uvc camera, there is no /dev/v4l directory. However /dev/video0 directpry is permanently there. if i delete it, it gets created on reset.

when i connect my uvc camera

lsusb detects the camera

cat/proc/bus/usb/devices show that the driver UVCvideo is loaded

cat /dev/video0 streams charcaters visible on my serial port terminal

cat /dev/video0 > test.avi saves a file of few mbs.

the problem is that when i play this test.avi with some player on my host pc, it says undefined format. i have used whole lot of methods with mplayer on my ubuntu host and with vlc on my windows host. nothing works.

now when i disconnect the camera, cat /dev/video0 still streams the characters. it shouldn't happen when there is no camera.

i am totally clueless what's going on...

Warm regards.

Quote:
cat /dev/video0 > test.avi
That command simply captures the raw data to the file test.avi. The capture will not end unless cat sees an end of file in the input stream.

To create movies, you will need to build an appropriate container. If you have ffmpeg installed, then a command like this should work.
Code:
ffmpeg -t 5 -f oss -i /dev/dsp -f video4linux2 -s 640x480 -i /dev/video0 output.mpg

Disclaimer - I have never worked with one of these devices, so I am no expert!

Apparently your device uses the Angstrom Distribution. The package browser at http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/ shows that ffmpeg packages are available. You will need to use the package manager (ipkg) to install packages.

I think that is a question that should be directed to the device manufacturer.
