argh can't install mplayer plugin for mozilla

I'm getting frustrated now... I tried a lot of things and still no success can anyone give me a walkthrough on how to install mplayer plugins to mozilla?

Here are the things I tried so far (to no avail). each step I purge my mplayer package

1. apt-get install mplayer mplayer-skins mplayer-mozilla

nope nothing happened here

2. apt-get mplayer
installed mozplugger.deb

no success either

3. got latest rpm package of mplayer and mplayer-plugin
converted the rpm to .deb through alien

nada

4. installed mplayer from source (success)
apt-get mozplugger / mozilla-mplayer / mplayer-mozilla

darn... I tried everything I can think of and it still doesn't work...

hmmm btw I'm trying to player wmv streams... this site in particular

hello, thanks for the reply...

I did what you said... but it still doesn't work

Hmmm how do I know that the mozilla-mplayer package was successfully installed?

I dunno, maybe it's already installed fine but just missing the needed codecs....

I'm trying to play wmv streams...

first make sure you can play a wmv from the command line with mplayer. If it doesn't work then it is probably due to a mistake in /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf.
Once this works, check if the plugin and component file from the mplayer plugin are actually in the mozilla plugin and component directory. (eg. is in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugin and /usr/lib/mozilla/component, but should be in /usr/lib/mozilla-1.7/plugin and /usr/lib/mozilla-1.7/plugin) this is something that happens quite often with binary install for the plugin.

etc/apt/sources.list file, add these lines to the end of the file...

deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ testing main
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ unstable main

After fixing the sources.list file you must connect to the internet and update the apt cache:

bash# apt-get update

Now you can install mplayer:

apt-get install mplayer-686 mplayer-fonst

apt-get install mozilla-mplayer flashplayer-mozilla
