Arg! Virtual machine, sudo won't work, can't log in as root, visudo won't work Arg!

I have Virtual Box running on Debian Squeeze. My virtual machine is Debian, which I built to try to install Java 7. Here is my quandary.

I can open Synaptic Package Manager, enter my password, it opens and I can install software. So far so good.

I tried sudo -i, entered my password and was told I am not in the suduers file and .... I researched that and found references to visudo, not found on my system. Tries sudo nano /etc/sudures, access denied.

Logged out, tried to log in as root, no go.

Aside from removing the hard drive, mounting it on another box then editing the file, how can I add myself to the sudoers file?

Ed

Try with "su" command to grant root privileges and add yourself into sudoers file. That should work

Thanks a bazillion. You would think I would have run across this solution in all my searches. It was spot on.
