i'm trying to udpate Gaim and a couple other aps via apt-get and i was wondering what my sources.list should look like for the most updated content.. thanks ahead of time
edit /etc/apt/sources.list and change your sources from stable to unstable. That will give you the sid repos. Although it says unstable, debian is pretty conservative about stability and the unstable packages tend to be very stable
What do you mean they aren't the most updated? Build them from source if you want the most recent packages. The Debian repos do tend to lag a little but not much, i don't think. try looking around for other repos as well. I'm sure there are a lot of them out there for debian.
