Apt-get upgrade hangs here... how to dlete or reinstall

Another noob question.

I use Mepis 3.3.2test03

The following error was encountered during an apt-get
upgrade routine:

Preparing to replace linux-sound-base 1.0.9b-2 (using .../linux-sound-base_1.0.9b-4_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement linux-sound-base ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Can I apt-get the old or new file and start over?

Please provide detailed noob instructions.
