apt-get

Hi,
I am using ubuntu linux. Where does the apt or synaptic installs the programs? I cannot find the programs i have downloaded with apt or synaptic.
PS: It isn't /var/spool, my friend said that but there is nothing there.

Where apt-get puts the install files is not at all important. It is usually /var/cache/apt/ but can be anywhere it is configed to do so. If you are looking for the executable files that run the programs you downloaded, try looking in /usr/bin.

Peace,

to show all the files a package has installed, you can do:
Code:
dpkg -L <package-name>
if you don't know the exact package name, you can do
Code:
dpkg -l <pattern>
where <pattern> is a regular expression to match e.g. dpkg -l *fox* will list any packages with "fox" in the name (it's case sensitive).
