Applying a Theme in Emerald (either not working or PEBKAC)

The instructions I followed to get Compiz-Fusion in Ubuntu 7.10 up-and-running included installing Emerald. Compiz-Fusion is working fine for the most part, but I'm having a strange problem with Emerald. It might be PEBKAC; I've learned that I can never really tell when it is. :P

I click on the "Edit Themes" tab, select an engine, save, click on the "Themes" tab, double-click on the theme I just saved, and nothing happens... Am I doing it wrong? Is there another setting in the Advanced Desktop Effects Settings that might conflict with it?
