Apparent change in Ubuntu distro in Grub.

I downloaded 10.4 LTS some time ago, and I have been using Linux applications without much trouble since.

However, something doesn't make sense. I run Windows XP on one hard disk, and Ubuntu on another. Originally, Grub would allow me to choose between 10.4. or Windows XP. But, starting a few months ago, Grub changed 10.4 to 2.6.32-xx Generic (lately xx=43). And yet, a system check tells me I am running 10.4 LTS.

What am I running, and why this change?

No need to worry, your still running Ubuntu 10.4. The 2.6.32 that you see is the kernel version that you are using. The kernel is pretty much the underlying software that allows you to control the pc. Not sure why it changed from saying the distro but maybe you did an update and Voila!

Thank you for the information, it is a load of my mind. I also apologize for the delay in getting back to you.
