Apache2 (Ubuntu) vs. httpd (RHEL) -- same?

I'm trying to install the prerequisite packages for some software on RHEL 6.2, but the installation instructions were written for Ubuntu. The instructions say I need to "apt-get install apache2". However, RHEL already comes with httpd (version Apache/2.2.15) installed. Does this mean I can skip this step? Or is there a difference between apache2 and httpd?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums!

What is "some software"? Where did you get it? Can you post a copy of, or link to, the complete install instructions?

Oh, sorry it's proprietary software for work and not freely available on the web, so I can't really post anymore details about it. The installation "instructions" really just list the prerequisite packages. I guess all I really want to know is if there is a difference between apache2 and httpd. Thanks!

They are two names for the same thing, as far as I know. :)

However, that is no guarantee that software designed for Ubuntu will run properly in Red Hat.

Okay thanks again! I don't think the software was specifically written for Ubuntu but I'll soon find out :)
