apache webserver and tomcat

my application is deployed in tomcat , now I want to add apache web server and add the connector to redirect to tomcat , I will install apache webserver in one machine and tomcat in another and add the connector to redirect requests to tomcat .

should I have apache and tomcat in different machines or same , I prefer having in different machine , will this cause any problem ?

It won't cause any problems to use a seperate machine. You will look at using mod_proxy and mod_proxy_ajp to forward the request to the apache web server. You can do this on the same machine as well.
