Apache question

Hello all. I am fairly new with Linux, but I have been using/playing with computers since the old Commodore 64. I love computers, but I've grown to hate Windows and all of the other expensive software.

I recently installed Madrake 10.1 Community Edition. From what I've read here, that's not the best choice, but it's what I have (other than Red Hat 8 and SuSe 8.1). Anyways, I installed fine, works great. I intentionally left out some things to gather experience with commands. I have a CD with a newer version of Apache on it. I unzip using the gunzip command. I have completed the "make" and "make install" commands. The files are in the /usr/local/apache2 directory, but when I try to start the server I get a "segmentation error". What does that mean and how can I fix it? Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Try running the command but pre pend it with "strace". strace rocks (try doing this on Windows!) and should be able to give you an idea of where this is falling over.

If it doesn't show anything obvious post the out put to this forum..

Cheers,
