Apache Index vs Ftp server


hi all,

i configured ftp server, if open ftp server on mozilla all the files will be listed under pub folder, at the same time i configured APACHE server and configured index options for a folder with few files. if i open apach on mozillla like http://localhost/myfolder in the same way like ftp all the files will be listed, then what is the diffence ??? i don't get it.

what's the difference between what?? despite the question marks, I don't see a question there.

hi,

thanks for your time, what i meant to say was, i can use http as file sharing server with index enable isnt it? then what is the big difference between sharing file with ftp and this http ?

FTP allows users to upload files as well as download them, it also supports resuming failed downloads. Plus, FTP allows for interactive use from the terminal.

the big difference is they are different protocols, also see cifs, nfs etc. different ways of making files available in different ways over a network.
