A friend of mine asked me to find out something for him:

...i was given a password for apache on a linux machine running rh9. i have no idea what the hell it allows me to do. can i upload to the server?...

I know its not for password protected pages (the .htaccess files?). He donesnt want to ask the admin, and risk looking like an idiot (he thinks I'm smart). Go figure.

Seriously though -- He's going to have to ask. It could be a password to a shell account on the apache box, an FTP account, a SMB password, a HTTP upload password, a Web_DAV (Eeek!) password, or about 100 other things. With no more info than that, it's hard to say.
