Anyone with experience with gphoto2?

I have a ptp digital camera [Canon Powershot A70], after installing relevant versions of libusb, libptp, libgphoto2, gphoto2 and gtkam... I have it working to an extent.

Under gtkam the camera will always appear three times. The first works, and I can get the pictures from the camera, the other two explain that the data is corrupted.

If I try to use gphoto2 from the command line, it can auto-detect the camera, and then explains there is corrupted data.

It is currently impossible for me to get anything complicated off the camera [eg.. 10seconds of video, sound attached to a picture etc]

Any suggestions? Is this a bug, dodgy camera, bad setup, cheap memory...

Thanks in advance!
