Anyone know of a usb TV tuner stick that works in linux?

hello,

I want to buy a TV tuner usb stick to use in linux. Many say windows PC only, but there are are some that linux might support with some tweaks. If you have one or know one that can run in linux, I would like to know. Thanks

I have a cheap TBS Q-Box DVB-S2 which is a digital satellite TV receiver. It has been working OK with mythtv on slackware 14.1, but sometimes it does go a bit funny and I need to restart the PC to get it going again. You need to download their driver from http://www.tbsdtv.com/download/ to use it, they also make a lot of other models and the drivers download from the same place.

It may help if you specify your location and the type of TV (analogue, digital, cable, satellite...?) you want to receive. I tagged this thread as I, myself, am interested in digital TV cards that work in the UK.

I'm in the US. I think I want to opt for a analog and digital i.e "hybrid" stick.

I found this link, not sure how up to date it is.

http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge It shows how each tv device is supported in linux or not.

I got a Kworld UB435-Q USB ATSC TV stick from newegg. I can verify it works perfectly in linux. In fact it works better in linux than window 7 (the software that came with it is very crashy). I use it with an external outdoor antenae (i'm in fringe area for digi TV). It also supports something called QAM which is free programmnig over cable? or somesuch - i dont' use that.

I use it in kaffeine media player (which uses xine library) - it has a separate tab just for TV. I heard of people also using VLC but i never tried that. You can easily record programs in kaffeine.

I use a hauppauge usb TV Tuner and it also works well in kaffeine as bryan S suggested for playing TV
