Anyone have the CUPS-Lexmark kit?
Hi,
I am trying to configure my RH7.2 to print to my Lexmark Z12 over USB. The only route I have found trawling through Google etc is to install CUPS then download and install the lexmark-cups-kit. The link for this is always http://mandrakesoft.com/~tkamppeter/...ups-kit.tar.gz However this appears to have expired - I just get 'The client cannot connect, contact Administrator' message. Does anyone have a valid location for this file or a copy they can mail me? TIA GeeTee |
Forgot to mention,
I have installed cups! My printer is being recognized on the /dev/usb/lp0 as 'Lexmark? Color Inkjet' - so I presume my device is configured. Using the standard printconf-gui with a Lexmark 3200 driver I get some garbled output from the printer - so I guess I just need the right driver! TIA GeeTee |
Have a look at gimp-print, it has excellent drivers. Make sure you read the instructions and compile in cups support.

I had a look at gimp-print, however it doesn't appear to offer support for the Lexmark Z12 ((according to the 'suported printer' on the website.
Will one of the others work? GeeTee |
Only one way to find out, give it a go and if one works send them feedback.

Installed gimp-print (compiled with the cups option).
This gives me the new drivers in CUPS. However none of them produce any output from the Z12. A few of them make the data light on the printer come on - but then lock the printer. I believe the Z12 uses a proprietry GDI driver and as such does not respond well to PCL/PJL/ASCII etc. Any other suggestions gratefully received! TIA GeeTee |

Nevermind eh!
Guess I'll have to write the driver myself..... except I wouldn't know where to start!! Thanks for the help though. GeeTee |
