Couldn't agree more, Proud. After viewing the root desktop, went back into KDE and re-checked the hide root feature. It's best (as you suggested) to go into console mode, key in 'SU' and then the root password.

ahhh much better, Thanks I have been thumped for hours trying to figure out where the heck my root logon promt went LOL it hid it from me in Mandrake
