antivirus in linux
 
i am currently using suse linux 9.1 personal. i just want to know if it is necessary for me to get anti virus software and if so where?

note: quite a few people told me that viruses for linux is almost non-existent

Linux virus threat is small but does exist. If you'd feel better having antivirus installed, clamav is good.

Your best security measure in Linux is not running as root as this limits access to critical system files.

If you are only using Linux, there may be no need to run an antivirus program at all. In a mixed environment however, it may be a whole different issue, you may need to install an antivirus program so that you don't pass email etc that contain viruses to Windows systems.
