Another Ubuntu issue....

...SOLVED!:)..See my previous post on my issue..The only way around my problem was to start in safe graphics mode???..I am putting on HD right now!:)
Xbuntu 7.10 GG obviously has a bug when attempting to boot from CD with a hard drive(older)hooked up.
Why would safe graphics mode get me around this??
So far my Linux experience has been one of some frustrations, however i absolutely love it! However i do wish it was more user friendly for the not so patient Nube..Alot of people are being scared away! which is unfortunate as Linux is so great!I predict in several more years Billy Boy will be very nervous,if not allready..KISS MY A-- XP! YOU HOG!
While i am here, what do others think of Damn small Linux? Is it quick??Can you play music and surf with it?...And i have heard it said that if one puts an OS on a smaller drive, saving anything else to a second drive, that the OS will be much faster than a larger drive? True or not?..I am interested in pure speed! and getting older systems like this old Celeron Tualatin 1Ghz,512mb of Ram going as fast as possible, any tips and advice on doing so??..
So far i love Xbuntu 7.10!
Thanks:)

If you think xbuntu is fast, check out fluxbuntu or even faster and smaller, puppylinux. Runs on a usb stick, cdrom-rw, dvd-rw, or even just a as a file saved to your windows-xp partition. It can do anything, and it's blindingly fast on old hardware. I love it as an emergency distro, I have fantastic hardware, so I use kde with all the bells and whistles, but I still like puppy when on other hardware. I carry it around on my usb-keychain. It's sort of windows95 ish, but I installed fluxbox, for the linux feel. Try puppy, you'll be impressed. DSL is fast, but I don't think it ships with full multimedia support. You'll have to do some work to get your .mp3's and dvds playing. With puppylinux, they just work out of the box. I like DSL, but if you want a really fast small pocket do it all linux distro, puppy is it.

Good luck...Let us know which you chose and how it worked out....
