Another Samba question
 
Do I need an ADs server, DNS server, or WINS server to get Samba to talk to (network with) with my Windows XP machines on my LAN?

None of the literature I have, including the Samba 3 How-to, clarifies this.

I need to know what to do. I am having no success with getting Samba to work and having my Linux machine seen by my XP computers and vice versa.

You (possibly?) need a WINS defined. I use my router's IP (IIRC), and that works. Otherwise, what kind of problems are you having, and do you have the same WORKGROUP defined on the SAMBA server as you do on the client XP machines?
