Another Newbie Mandrake question

I am working with Mandrake 9.2 on one pc, but I have other pc's set up on a windown network throughout my place. How do I setup the linux machine so that it is viewable from my windows XP machine without FTP'ing in. I can go out over the internet and back through a secure shell FTP, but I would much rather go back and forth directly from one machine to the next. any ideas?

Are your machines running on a reasonably secure network with firewall to the public internet? If so, you could use Samba to share files/folders (and printers) from your Linux computer. This is a Linux implementation of the Windows sharing.

I'm not familiar with Mandrake (I'm using RedHat) but someone else sure can tell you how to set it up.

Good luck!

Simply open up Konqueror. Go to your home directory, right click on the files or directories you want to share. Choose Properties, then click on the 3rd Tab - Local Net Sharing. You can then configure your sharing by hitting the Configure File Sharing Button.
