Annoying sound

Does anyone know how to get rid of the loud beep sound when something isn't allowed or if i press something wrong? It's the BIOS sound or what I should call it...
It would be nice if someone helped me out. I'm using my computer at school and this sound isn't exactly friendly in the middle of a class.

Appreciate any help.

I searched for the topic, but I only found questions about soundcards and such. I'll search better next time so we don't get more useless threads than there already is

The site was useful. Lots of information at the start, but i found what i was looking for. I disabled the bell by writing: xset -b in the shell prompt.
Status of the bell is: xset q
