Android Phones: Which Display type is best for crisp sharp texts?
 

I'm currently researching for a new android phone to buy and there are screen or display types out there and variants of each type. I'm looking to buy an android phone that is good for reading texts. I had a tablet and the black text looked gray and some colors appeared to be washed out.

Anyway, there are display types such as TFT, IPS, Retina, OLED and variants of the above such as HD IPS, Super AMOLED and etc...

In your opinion, which display type is best at producing crisp sharp texts? Thanks

PS: I'm also aware that resolution is a factor as well. I know the higher the resolution, the better.

PSS: I am aware that iphones use the retina display and they're pretty good for texts and graphics but I'm not in the market for them.

you didn't menton e-ink screen, it black and white, but saves tons of energy.

The kindle readers are great but they are limited for what they were designed to do which is reading ebooks. The kindle paperwhite is a better improvement of the original kindle reader as it offered higher and sharper contrast for reading texts. I'm waiting for a color version of a e-ink reader if amazon ever produces one.

I guess any smartphone with HDIPS or super AMOLED should reproduce good text contrast for reading.

oh, i meant e-ink phones, but they are still prototipes, right?

Maybe you should address this at LQ's sister forum Android Forum.

ifones retina display uses in-plane switching (ips) i beleive. they just have a pixel density higher than 300.

i think usually ips is sharper/crisper. however i prefer amoled since they are brigher (they are designed to have more leds in each pixel) and use less battery.

You'd have to look at the types of media that you wish to use this phone one. Web pages are much different than ebooks. Resolution isn't really as much to do with it as the screen and OS's ability to deliver what you believe is best. Some devices offer a way to tune the display even to improve readability.
