An error regarding imlib

I'm running Crux 2.3 and am trying to install IceWM. When I attempted to install IceWM it tells me I need imlib. Great, so I then I attempted to install imlib and I get this error:

checking gif_lib.h usability... no
checking gif_lib.h presence... no
checking for gif_lib.h... no
configure: error: *** GIF header not found ***
I'm still new to Linux so I looked around and found "libungif" and installed it. This did not fix the problem. Any help?
