Question an 'ole 386

I have an 'ole PD 386 in my room, as you may know if you read my other post. Last time I asked about small linux, this time I don't care which version of linux I use. All I want is linux on the 386. I have no fear of wiping out the whole hard drive and completly rewriting it. I also have no idea of how much memory or RAM (maybe 4MB??) it has. Can anyone help me?
I am a complete newbie with linux, i only heard it was quite good bcos i love to program so can you explain how to install the version you are talking about plz?

Thanks so much

well, it wouldn't hurt to check how much ram you do have and possibly add more since it is fairly cheap these days.
but you should be able to install almost any distro with a minimal install. i wouldn't recommend or getting X on the machine, but you can install the basics for a minimal runned system.
you can check out most major linux sites like and .org for listings of linux distro's, and smaller sized even distro's.
