amsn installation

Hello All,

I am a newbe in Linux and Gaim is not working for MSN so I was reading to install AMSN. I downloaded it, I extracted the zip and tar files. Now i see the files in the msn folder. The question is how do I make it to run? How do I install it? How can I see it on my Linux menu?
I am using Redhat 8.0, Gnome.
Thanks!
rod

What did you download? If it's the sources, you need to compile it. If you don't know how to compile it, make sure you download the rpm. Once you do that, get some coffee and type
# man rpm
for installation instructions.
After installation, you will likely find the amsn file in /usr/bin. You can start it my typing /usr/bin/amsn in a terminal. I can't tell you how to add it to your Gnome menu because I have never used that window manager.

Thank you,
Now it's working! ok so I guess I'll find out later how to add it to the menu so I dont have to start it from the cmd line or run program...
I have another question regarding my audio:
When I put a CD into my cdrom drive I can hear the music and it's fine, when I try to open a wav or mp3 file it tells me :
Nautilus has no installed viewer capable of displaying
"/root/msn/skins/default/sounds/alarm.wav"
I downloaded lame-3.96.1 but I can't make it to work despite the compiling went through and the make install too.
I thought I needed a plugin to be able to open those type of files right?
Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks for the help!
Rod

Could be that you are missing some other software as well, like something that can play wav files or mp3. Lame is just a codec I think. I haven't combined aMSN with sound so far, so can't help you there I'm afraid.
