Amarok plugin adder- ogg and mp3 support
hi every1,
i have recently installed the mandriva distro of linux and i am just gettin to grips with it. i have problem with playing mp3 on THE Amarok software and the following message comes up when i try to do so: gstreamer could not create the element:adder please make sure you have installed all necessary gstreamer plugins(e.g. OGG and MP3) and run gst-register afterwards. i have followed the above instruction but to no avail. can someone please help. thank you bundles |
Try this
Amrok comes with multiple engine chooses, the default is gstreamer and it usually works well with most distro, but I have used some distro that have problems with that engine. Simply change the engine to xine and the problem is usually resolved.

Re: Amarok plugin adder- ogg and mp3 support
Hi! I am using SUSELinux 9.3 and I am very much enjoying it save for one thing. All the Audio Players except for Real Media do not Play mp3 files. Now I resorted to the laborious job of converting my fave mp3's to Ogg Vorbis files.
Do you have a fix for this. I prefer using RhythmBox Player and Amarok. Please note I am a linux newbie ... line commands are scary to me so you will have to be very specific Quote:

I found a way
I used suse 9.3 and never found a way to get mp3 player working, and had a few other issues. So I decided to wait for suse 10 to start really looking into it. Luckily in that time, someone made this page: http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/ which adds full mp3 player support and all windows and quicktime codecs to your player of choice. Xine has its own player, but it is also used in Amarok and can be set elsewhere as the engine. So for mp3s, ogg, dvd, and all the windows codecs in one shot, just use that page, it really helped me out, big time.

Re: I found a way
RedShirt! You are my God! Thanks for pointing out that site...
I downloaded the following file: w32codec-0.52-1.i386.rpm Installed it on my machine, and my MP3's have never sounded this good especially when playing them using Amarok... Apart from that, I also managed to get my Xine and Kaffeine to play DVD's thanks to this site... Now where can I find an Mplayer package that comes with everything or a site that contains everything that MPlayer will need to work properly? Quote:

The link to that awe-inspiring page seems to lead to a time-out. Did the site get shut down? If so, can someone please post the information which was there? Thanks!
|
Perhaps it did...
Maybe the Jem Report, will enlighten things for you. Hacking OpenSuSE will get you headed in the right direction, even better than the page that is now dead. Course, it is newer too, and not likely to go away. |
Tis a pity that site was closed down but it really helped me! I have now migrated to SUSE 10.0, But I did keep all the extra files that I downloaded from the site previously mentioned.
I have realised that you can configure amarok to play using the Xine Engine and If you have Realplayer 10 installed you can choose that instead as your engine, it's called the Helix Engine. In this case since you were unable to get to that site before it closed shop. Your best bet would be to use Realplayer's Helix Engine since it can Play MP3's Regarding libdvdcss2. Keep on googling brotherman! I have just realised that this is not the information you wanted ... you just wanted us to post the information that was available there ... Quote:

i had a similar issue with amarok. download gstreamer-mad to resolve the issue.

Install the media packs with the SuSE online updates for playing mp3 with amarok.
Took me ages to find it out but its simple to install and run! |
yeah, multimedia issues are always lame once they are figured out. one just needs to add the plugins. even in totem, for example it is in some very esoteric .gnome2 or something like that. i think it is the one very big issue for newbies. linux distros should put an introductory help page, like the wallpaper or something, to help find these plugins. ubuntu does it, but even this is too detailed.

Concerning 9.3 MP3 Support.
Just a hint on the multimedia-packs. There are four of them and they hide them midst all of the various language support tools in YOU. You need all four and then you will have MP3 support. This is only for 9.3 though. I have 10 installed also but do not see any support in YOU as of now.

Use GStreamer
I have found GStreamer with the required plugins to give the best results.
Use it to get flawless mp3, wma and flac playback in Amarok, see e.g. http://mstenberg.com/blog/2010/08/04...p3-wma-codecs/. |
