Amarok

I recently downloaded Amarok so that I could play my music and hook my ipod to my computer with a linux os (ubuntu). I downloaded the program but can't figure out how to get it to work. I'm used to Windows OS so I would say that i can't figure out how to "install" the software. I can open the folder on the desktop where Amarok is and when I do so there are a billion more folders and files inside of there. How do I get it installed so that I can listen to my music?

Thanks,
Derek

Don't download the source code and install it. Use The package management system in Ubuntu when the computer is connected to the internet. Click on the main menu tab in the upper left hand corner, then go to Add/Remove. You will be prompted for the root password. Then you should be able to go to something like multimedia or audio/video and then see Amarok. Click it then install it. You can also open synaptic from the administration tab and search for Amarok and mark it for installation, then install it. The nice thing about modern linux distributions is the ability to use the package manager.

Hi,

How did you go about downloading it? With the *buntus
you should be able to just "aptitude install amarok".

Hi, first of all, which distribution are you running? Odds are that there's a really easy way to get and install it. I think you grabbed the source version which, while giving you the install you want, involves a lot of work.
