Am gettin exit signal 11 when I run fsck- how do I recover

I have a system running Redhat AS 2.1 update 3 with external SCSI RAID storage. The external storage has two logical drives. It developed a problem and put all drives to offline. I have since recovered this condition. On checking the file systems it is failing on one logical drive, I am logging on in single user mode and running fsck -p /dev/sdc1 which is the problem drive, it exits with signal 11. I am stuck at this stage how can I recover from this condition.

Is there anyway I can force the system to start, and if so will I be able to mount this file system?

run fsck -aV /dev/hda

In would help to see the actual output.

what does dumpe2fs report?
One other thing that might be wrong is that the e2fsck binary or the ext2fs shared libraries itself might have gotten corrupted.
