Alternative USB serial port access

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there is an alternative method to using udev rules in order to get access to the USB serial ports. Is there a command to check the names and give them to you? I'm looking for something along the lines of "ttyUSB". Thanks!

Hmm it looks to be like modemtool is for Red Hat. Sorry I guess I didn't specify the version of Linux I am using. It's Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala. I'm currently using udev rules to send and receive data from serial ports. I run into a problem when my program tries to read the data. It just draws a blank. I think it's because of the udev rules. Anyone else have this problem?

The command to use for this is:

Code:
$ dmesg | grep tty
with all of the serial ports plugged in. This will list the devices connected to each port by format ttyUSB*

Regards,
Ian
