alsa ubuntu dapper ich5 crashes repeatly oss too
Hi,
Did an install quite awhile ago and had problems with sound I think before and after updates did not look at all updates. Anyway, I use any media player and select between oss and alsa and both end up crashing. I would really like to use alsa as I believe Dapper Ubuntu uses it as default. This is what I have done so far cjae@cjae-desktop:~$ lsmod | grep snd snd_intel8x0 35772 5 snd_ac97_codec 100224 1 snd_intel8x0 snd_ac97_bus 2400 1 snd_ac97_codec snd_pcm_oss 56448 0 snd_mixer_oss 20544 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 96708 4 snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss snd_timer 26884 2 snd_pcm snd 60004 14 snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer soundcore 10784 1 snd snd_page_alloc 11304 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm cjae@cjae-desktop:~$ lspci | grep audio 0000:00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02) cjae@cjae-desktop:~$ /etc/init.d/alsa-utils start The last comand made it work again for like 5 min and then quit again I believe it does this for all types of sound 2.6.15-27-686 is the kernel I have as it is a p4ht I have not messed with the kernel at all I do not know much about sound in linux so a detailed response would be very helpful. All I know for sure is that it box worked exceptionally well with this distro before I should probably add that it might have happened when I install KDE. I have both environments |
