alsa problems

I have had alsa drivers working for a while although I have had to run alsaconf everytime I restarted the system.

anyway when I run alsamixer it returns

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

It has been working until now.

Also when running alsaconf I get

Loading driver...
/usr/sbin/alsaconf: line 657: rcalsasound: command not found
Setting default volumes...

although it ends normally

I'm not very good at Linux but I'll try to help you. Someone who knows more about this can tell you more.

After you have ran alsaconf and alsamixer type

alsactl store
This command saves current settings and you don't have to run alsaconf & alsamixer everytime you boot. Remember to run it as root (well, you can't perform alsaconf either if you aren't root).

I hope this helps. I'm sorry I can't help you more. But here is link to a very good tutorial, it helped me when I had problems with soundcard.

Best regards,
